Our History. Our Mission. Our Values.
The Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument (FBTWNM) was established to support the preservation and educational mission of the park. Since our founding in 2008, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of Booker T. Washington continues to inspire future generations. Through fundraising, advocacy, and volunteerism, we help bring the history of this site to life.
We honor the visionaries who established this organization in 2008:
Lillie and Wilbert Head, Penny Blue, Kathleen and John Tully, Sandy and Don Kelso, George and Linda McLaughlin, Sue Joyce, Jean and Lonnie Hines, and Rebecca Harriet.

This famous phrase from Washington's 1895 Atlanta Compromise speech symbolizes the idea of making the most of one's current situation and resources. It serves as a reminder that opportunity often lies right beneath our feet, if we only have the wisdom to recognize it and the determination to use it.
