Honoring the Journey. Supporting the Future.
The Annual Freedom Walk honors Booker T. Washington’s historic 500-mile journey from Malden, West Virginia, to Hampton, Virginia, to secure an education. This incredible feat of perseverance is the reason the Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument walks today.
We host this event every year not only to honor Dr. Washington’s legacy but because we desire to see the next generation of leaders go far beyond our expectations.
The Freedom Walk is a community event that brings together individuals, families, and organizations. Participants can join us for group walks at the National Monument or participate virtually from their own locations.
Every step taken and every dollar raised supports the FBTWNM Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are awarded annually to qualifying seniors at Franklin County High School, empowering them to pursue their educational dreams.
You do not have to be physically present at the park to make a difference. We welcome participants from all over to join us in spirit and support.
Thanks to the enthusiasm of our walkers and donors, we consistently meet our fundraising goals, allowing us to increase the support we provide to local students.
Your contribution helps build the next generation of leaders.
